HUNGARY – Flextronics will invest €5 million in research and development at its Zalaegerszeg facility, growing its footprint in Hungary’s electronics sector. The Hungarian government will support the project with €1.7 million, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed during the announcement in Budapest. The U.S.-owned electronics manufacturer employs 6,000 people in Hungary, with 98% of its products destined for export markets and more than 70% sourced from Hungarian suppliers.
The new R&D investment will expand the Zalaegerszeg facility’s development team to 70 employees. As part of the initiative, Flextronics also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hungarian government, joining a network of 99 such corporate partners employing over 200,000 people nationwide. Minister Szijjártó emphasized that closer Hungarian-American political ties have accelerated economic cooperation, noting that American companies are Hungary’s third-largest investor community, employing over 100,000 people.
The project further highlights Hungary’s efforts to attract US investment, with Flextronics becoming the 16th American company to enter a strategic partnership with the government.
