MARCIANISE, ITALY – Jabil workers here are threatening to strike over layoffs, according to reports. On Monday, Jabil eliminated 190 staff positions at the plant.

In Italy, the company employed 700 but sought to reduce this number by half. The firm first eliminated 160 jobs through voluntary redundancies and redeployment before reducing the workforce by another 190 this week.

Unions at the plant promised strike action, declaring the sackings illegal.

In response to the pandemic, the Italian government set up a support package for companies, banning layoffs until mid-August.
