DONGGUAN, CHINA – Samsung Electronics said it would do 30% less business with a China-based parts supplier after uncovering employment of child workers there.

In July, Samsung stopped business with Dongguan Shinyang Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shinyang Engineering, after US-based China Labor Watch said it found at least five child workers without contracts at the supplier. Dongguan Shinyang reportedly worked with a subcontractor that hired them.

The move to penalize the cellphone parts maker comes amid pressure on Samsung to ensure Chinese suppliers adhere to local labor laws.

Per Chinese law, the minimum worker age is 16.
