CHENGDU, CHINA – An unidentified 20-year-old male Foxconn worker committed suicide by jumping off a building here today, according to local reports.

The worker becomes the fourth casualty in a week at the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer. Last week, three workers died after an explosion at the campus. The event is still under investigation.

Last year, following the deaths of at least a dozen employees, most by jumping from the EMS company’s buildings in Shenzhen, Foxconn installed safety nets around buildings, raised salaries and hired counselors to help at-risk workers.

Foxconn has come under worldwide scrutiny for alleged harsh treatment of workers, including excessive overtime, physical demands and docked pay.
