CHONGQING, CHINA -- Quanta Computer has signed an agreement with the municipal government here to set up a new plant, the company said today.

Taiwan-based Quanta, the world's second-largest maker of laptop PCs, also has two plants in Jiangsu Province.

The company's board must still sign off on the deal.

Chonqqing is quickly becoming a hub for PC and other electronics manufacturing, with companies like H-P, Foxconn, Cisco and others having announced or installed facilities there.
