GUADALAJARA -- Jabil Circuit has hired 4,000 workers in Mexico as it ramps production of the RIM Blackberry, according to published reports.

Although Jabil has trimmed hundreds of jobs from north of the border, the additions bring the EMS company's workforce to 20,000 in the nation.

The Blackberry program is being built at the company's Guadalajara campus, where it has two factories, Bloomberg reported.

“We absorbed many workers that left other electronics companies in this area,” said plant manager Cesar Castro, according to Bloomberg.

Earlier in the year, Jabil announced plans to sack 3,000 workers worldwide across 10 manufacturing sites. The company closed its factory in Billerica, MA, and fired more than 900 workers in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary.
