SAN JOSE The Semiconductor Industry Association is lauding the $15 billion set aside for funding scientific research programs as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (HR 1) now headed for President Obama’s desk.

The bill includes significant funding increases for the National Science Foundation, the National Institute for Standards and Technology, the Department of Energy Office of Science, and the Advanced Research Project Agency-Energy.

“The Economic Recovery Act includes more than $15 billion for vital scientific research programs – a major accomplishment,” said SIA President George Scalise in a press release. “Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. [Anne] Eshoo (D-CA), and President Obama clearly understand that America’s high-tech leadership and basic research investments have fueled our nation’s economic growth in the past and are sure to be an integral part of any meaningful recovery. Today they delivered and we commend them for their leadership. Without question, this bill represents a tremendous victory for the innovation agenda.”
