TAIPEI Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics each expect third-quarter shipments to grow 20% or more sequentially on stronger PC demand.

Both companies indicated increased demand from emerging markets would offset slower US sales.

The companies are the world's largest subcontract laptop manufacturers. Quanta also builds about 10 million low-cost units under its own brand.

Quanta, which builds for H-P and Dell, expects global notebook PC shipments to grow 25% this year. A Quanta executive reiterated the company’s 2008 target of 40 million laptops.

Compal is on a run rate for 32 million units shipped in 2008.

Meanwhile, Wistron Corp., another Taiwanese PC maker, expects shipments of 5.4 million to 5.65 million units, up 15-20% sequentially.
