Silicon Valley: Zero Defects International (ZDI) and Europlacer Americas, Inc. have announced the acquisition by Sierra Circuits of 3 complete SMT production lines, consisting of a total of 9 Europlacer iineo II SMT Placement Systems and 3 EP710 automatic screen printers. These assembly lines have been installed in Sierra’s newly completed printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) manufacturing facility in San Jose, CA and comprise the centerpiece of one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Northern California and beyond.

Among the reasons for selecting Europlacer cited by Sierra CEO, Ken Bahl, is Europlacer’s unique strategy for rapid product changeovers, fully integrated MES software and connected intelligent materials management, providing superior overall efficiency in a high mix environment. At this time, full scale production has commenced, and operational efficiency is actually exceeding expectations.

“We are honored to have been chosen as the assembly equipment supplier by Sierra Circuits and are extremely proud to be part of the success of the new assembly facility”, says John Perrotta, Europlacer Group Global Sales & Services Officer. Michaela Brody, ZDI’s president expressed appreciation for the fact that Sierra’s decision followed a rigorous and thorough competitive evaluation of many industry equipment suppliers.
