Local  thermal load may exceed the maximum permissabilities of the individual assemblies. Thermal Interface Materials

Active cooling elements are heat pipes and ventilators, passive cooling elements are copper inlays. In case these coolings cannot be realized from the component's side or should additional thermal conductive paths be required, polymere based thermal conductive media can be recommended according to Peters' experience. These media are called Thermal Interface Materials. Besides the heat flow it is often also necessary to grant electrical insulation according to Peters. This limits the use of metal based materials. In order to still achieve thermal conductivity, materials with a large extent of thermal conductive ceramics are necessary.

Often the use of metallic heatsinks entails effort, costs and process uncertainty. Peters Research offers remedy to solve this problem. Printed thermal conductive pastes which as heatsinks dissipate heat on the surface or as thermal interface generate a good heat transition to metal heatsinks, are printed in the required layout on the surface of the printed circuit board by the pcb manufacturer.
