Hanover, August 17, 2020 – Viscom AG won the competitive procurement process for THT inspection which was conducted by Bosch end of 2019. The innovative system S3016 ultra impresses with precise and fast inspection of PCB bottom sides in 3D. Now, in the first quarter of 2020, the process release has been given for the start of inline production of the first systems for electronics production in the automotive sector. Viscom, the new exclusive supplier, will equip Bosch plants worldwide with the new S3016 ultra for standardized 3D solder joint inspection of THT components.

The advanced 3D AOI solution from Viscom will contribute to expanding the decades-long technological partnership between Bosch and Viscom. Special Bosch requirements have already been implemented in the development work for the new S3016 ultra THT inspection system. The S3016 ultra particularly impressed with its inspection depth work thanks to its unique sensor technology with one orthogonal and eight angled cameras: Viscom’s powerful XM sensor technology has already proven its worth in 3D AOI systems for shadow-free SMD inspection and is now also found in the XMu module, developed specifically for 3D THT inspection.

For the first time, this can now be used for high-precision inspection of the underside of printed circuit boards to inspect the solder joints of THT, press-fit and SMD components in 3D. In addition to exact 3D pin measurement, this also guarantees fast detection of open solder joints, solder bridges and missing pins. During the inspection process, the camera module moves to the next position by means of an X/Y-unit and images already taken are evaluated in parallel, resulting in a critical time benefit and thus fulfilling the highest cycle time requirements.

“We are pleased that we can set a new standard in quality control for Bosch worldwide with the innovative 3D THT inspection solution from Viscom. Of course, we are particularly pleased that a long-standing supplier with a top-class system was able to prevail in our competitive procurement process in terms of price and performance enabling seamless integration into our electronics production sites,” explains Jürgen Hoeren, specialist engineer from Robert Bosch Elektronik GmbH in Salzgitter.

The S3016 ultra transport system allows smooth handling of PCB sizes up to 520 mm in length by 610 mm in width and also workpiece carriers; the 3D AOI’s innovative frame design can also provide a return path below the system. In line with Industry 4.0 requirements, the system can be comprehensively networked within the line as well as with the MES.

About Viscom
Founded in 1984, Viscom AG is one of the leading suppliers worldwide in the field of assembly inspection within electronics production. With its headquarters and production site in Hanover, Germany, the company develops, produces and sells high-quality inspection systems from the areas of AOI, SPI, AXI, MXI, bond inspection as well as conformal coating inspection. The systems from Hanover set high standards in terms of accuracy and speed. The product range covers the complete spectrum of optical inspection and X-ray inspection for small- and medium-sized companies as well as for large series production. Viscom systems are used for 100% automatic inspection of electronic assemblies such as in the production of automotive electronics, aerospace technology or in the manufacture of telecommunications electronics.

Product development also focuses on customer-specific system developments and networking with other production processes for smart factory applications. In order to achieve this, Viscom AG increasingly invests in its own software and hardware development, which is constantly defining new standards in inspection technology.

International sales are handled by a broad network of its own subsidiaries, application centers, service centers and representatives. A service team of in-house technicians and application specialists commission Viscom systems worldwide, offering maintenance, conversion and modernization from a single source. In addition, system-specific training courses are offered for customers’ operators, programmers and maintenance personnel. Experienced engineers and technicians from the application and service departments share their expert knowledge with participants.

Viscom AG has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2006 (ISIN: DE0007846867).
