NORTHBROOK, IL -- North American electronics manufacturing services shipments in December rose 1.3% over last year and 6.2% sequentially, a new survey reports.
EMS bookings in December fell 7% year-over-year and increased 2.3% from November, said IPC, an industry trade group.
The book-to-bill ratio fell to 1.20, down 20 basis points from the revised November figure.
The ratio is calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by the value of sales billed during the same period from companies in IPC’s survey sample. A ratio of more than 1.0 suggests future growth.
“The EMS book-to-bill held steady to close out 2023,” said Shawn DuBravac, IPC’s chief economist. “Despite a down year for orders, shipments remained positive as manufacturers trimmed backlogs.”
