MILPITAS, CA -- Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales are expected to reach a record $165 billion in 2026, up 23% year over year, and climb to $229 billion by 2028, according to SEMI's Mid-Year Total Semiconductor Equipment Forecast.

The outlook reflects continued investment in AI infrastructure, leading-edge logic, advanced memory and back-end technologies as chipmakers expand capacity for high-performance computing and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Wafer fab equipment sales are projected to increase to $143.9 billion in 2026, while semiconductor test equipment is forecast to grow 31% to $15 billion.

Assembly and packaging equipment sales are expected to rise 9% to $6 billion. China, Taiwan and South Korea are forecast to remain the industry's largest equipment markets through 2028.
