WASHINGTON, DC – North American electronics manufacturing services (EMS) bookings surged 28.7% month over month in December and rose 5.1% year over year, outpacing shipment growth and lifting the book-to-bill ratio to 1.24.
Shipments increased 5.6% year over year in December and edged up 0.7% compared to November. However, on a year-to-date basis, shipments remained 0.4% lower than the prior year, while bookings were 0.9% higher, indicating that demand is beginning to recover ahead of output.
The widening gap between bookings and shipments suggests improving order momentum and growing backlog, a pattern that often precedes higher production levels as manufacturers scale to meet demand.
