WASHINGTON – Global semiconductor sales reached 64.9 billion dollars in August, up 21.7% from 53.3 billion dollars a year earlier, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. Sales also increased 4.4% sequentially from 62.1 billion dollars in July.

“Global semiconductor sales continued to grow in August, far exceeding sales in August of last year,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “Sales in the Asia Pacific region and the Americas continue to drive growth, with sales of memory and logic chips notably increasing.”

Regionally, year-over-year sales were up in Asia Pacific and all other markets by 43.1%, the Americas by 25.5%, China by 12.4%, and Europe by 4.4%, but fell in Japan by 6.9%. On a month-to-month basis, sales increased across all major markets: Asia Pacific and all other regions rose 6.9%, the Americas 4.3%, China 3.3%, Japan 2.0% and Europe 1.0%.

The data, compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization and reported as a three-month moving average, highlights sustained demand across key applications and markets.
