BANNOCKBURN, IL – North American EMS shipments in July fell 4.1% on a 90-day moving average versus a year ago. Shipments declined 5.1% sequentially, according to the Global Electronics Association.
Year-to-date shipments are down 0.6% through July. The book-to-bill ratio for the month was 1.23, indicating orders outpaced billings. The ratio is calculated by dividing orders booked over the past three months by sales billed during the same period from companies in the survey sample. A ratio above 1.0 is a positive indicator for future sales growth.
EMS bookings in July rose 7.9% compared to the same month last year and increased 13.4% from June. YTD bookings are up 1.5%.
“EMS bookings rose in July even as shipments eased. After clearing earlier deliveries, customers are stepping up orders as momentum normalizes,” said Shawn DuBravac, Ph.D., chief economist, GEA.
