JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA – EMS company ATA IMS temporarily shut down operations of all its factories here because of Covid-19 cases. The shutdown was in effect from Dec. 31 through Jan 7. Operations will resume Jan 8.

“As a number of our staff and workers have also tested positive for Covid-19, management has made this decision for a voluntary temporary shutdown for the benefit of our employees and the community, as our top priority is the health and safety of our employees and to stem the spread of Covid-19 infections,” the firm said.

"During this shutdown period, the company is working closely with the Johor state Ministry of Health to conduct PCR testing for all workers, and for cleaning and sanitization of our premises, according to KKM’s guidelines and stringent SOP. All employees have been strongly encouraged to stay home and observe health preventive measures at all times.”

The temporary shutdown is not expected to have a significant financial impact, as the firm has communicated with customers and taken the necessary actions to reschedule production output so production and deliveries will be back on schedule within the next two weeks.

ATA IMS reported on Dec 21 that two employees of its subsidiary ATA Components tested positive for Covid-19. This resulted in the operations of its subsidiary, which produces wire harness, being halted from Dec. 18 to 24 for cleaning and disinfection, while its workers underwent Covid-19 testing.
