TAIPEI -- Wistron is looking at opening a campus in Vietnam as a hedge against the trade war consuming China.

The CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY Top 10 ODM/EMS is considering a 2.5 million sq. ft. site in the Dong Van III Industrial Zone in Ha Nam Province in northern Vietnam, according to a regulatory filing submitted last week.

M The $15 million purchase price is subject to its board's approval.

Mass production is expected to begin late in 2020 or 2021, according to Credit Suisse.

Wistron is also shifting production to its sites in Taiwan, India, the Philippines, Mexico and the Czech Republic.

It's unclear which products Wistron might shift to Vietnam. Media sources and research organizations reported IT/communications systems and laptops. The company has not commented.
