SANTA CLARA, CA -- Top 15 EMS firm Zollner reportedly recently came close to acquiring a factory here, multiple sources have told CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY.

Zollner reportedly was close to a deal to acquire NBS Corp., a Silicon Valley EMS firm. Privately held NBS reportedly has sales of more than $45 million.

It would have been Germany-based Zollner's first acquisition in the US. The company has production sites in Germany, Hungary, Romania, Tunisia and China. It has a small sales office in Sterling, VA, which it opened in 2009. It also has a small stake in VA-based EMS firm EIT, also signed in 2009.

Zollner is ranked 12th worldwide among EMS companies, according to the CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY Top 50, scheduled to be released next week. It employs more than 7,200 workers worldwide.

Neither Zollner nor NBS representatives have responded to CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY requests for comment.
