DUSSELDORF, GERMANY -- Henkel said second-quarter sales increased 11.6% to 3.89 billion euros. Organic sales, after adjusting for foreign currency exchange and acquisitions and divestments, were up 6.8% sequentially.

Net income for the quarter rose 86.7% to 280 million euros. Operating profit (EBIT)increased by 51.2% to 421 million euros. Adjusted operating profit improved 54.5% to 476 million euros.

Sales at Henkel's Adhesive Technologies business rose 19.5% from a year ago to 1.89 billion euros. The Adhesive Technologies unit, which includes the Loctite and Henkel brands, grew 13.6% organically on volume increases, with double-digit growth in Western Europe and North America. Operating profit more than doubled compared to the prior-year quarter, to 222 million euros. Adjusted EBIT was 255 million euros. Return on sales rose 580 basis points to 11.8%. The electronics segment also continued to show considerable improvement, the company said, with the substantial year-over-year gains in Western Europe, North America and Latin America.
