LONDON -- Gordon Arbib, the former chief executive of Multicore Solders, passed away this month.

Trained as an electrical engineer at Kings College in London, Arbib earned a master's in engineering, then spent some 35 years with Multicore Solders in development, manufacturing and sales.

In 1974, he was named chairman and CEO of the company, positions he held until 2000, when it was acquired by Henkel. He was also a director of Multicore's parent company, Kelsey Industries, and CEO from 1990 to 2000.

Following the acquisition of Multicore by Henkel in 2000, Arbib became a non-executive director of Henkel and sat on several corporate boards. including DawnMed and Ultralife.

He died April 9, following a long illness.

Among Arbib's moves while at Multicore was the 1997 signing of an agreement to license lead-free solder patents from Ames Laboratory in Iowa. "Multicore Solders is very impressed by Ames Laboratory's initiative in developing lead-free solder," he said at the time. "We look forward to the opportunity of introducing it through our worldwide manufacturing and sales organization."
