NEW YORK – Electronics components remain in short supply, with major distributors upping lead times by as much as 100%.

Arrow recently noted lead times are now 8 to 14 weeks, with an average of 12 weeks, significantly higher than typical lead times of 4 to 8 weeks, Deutsche Bank Equity Research said in a research note last night.

Spot shortages were not related to any specific product, industry or segment, but continue to rotate through products. To offset shortages, Arrow plans to add inventory in the next few quarters.

Avent is expected to follow suit, DB said.

With the pending merger of WPG Holdings and Yosun Industrial Corp., Arrow and Avnet are the world’s second and third largest electronics components distributors.

The tight supply environment could push average selling prices higher, DB said.
