MUNICH -- Siemens Electronics Assembly says its October to February orders for placement machines matched those of the entire previous 12 months.

Moreover, global bookings more than tripled compared to the same period last year, the OEM said.

The company credits China and the rest of Asia, adding that orders from Europe are on the rise, too, jumping 30% sequentially in February. "China played the dominating role, but since the middle of 2009 order bookings from Europe have begun to recover as well," the firm said.

Siemens also claimed market share rose by up to 4% in parts of Asia and several European regions.

"Although our placement machines are only part of the total market, the global new order bookings for SMT equipment are an important trend indicator for us. What's most important for all industry players is the fact that the numbers confirm a positive trend – in all regions," said Stephanie Pepersack, manager market intelligence.
