DORNSTADT, GERMANY – ASYS GmbH has stepped deeper into the screen printer market, acquiring EKRA, the Germany-based printer manufacturer, in a deal announced today. Financial and other terms were not disclosed.

The deal, which closed July 1, includes EKRA’s divisions in Asia and the U.S. The combined firm will employ more than 350 persons worldwide.

In a press statement, Werner Kreibl, managing director of ASYS, said, “This acquisition is an important strategic step in the history of ASYS. We are supporting the Germany industry by securing more than 100 jobs and the integration of EKRA … is the perfect addition to our product portfolio.”

ASYS also supplies material handlers, marking systems, depaneling equipment, backend automation.

EKRA had been in play for several months, and had been under investor management since last fall. The company was founded in 1946 and has more than 100 employees. Its Boennigheim headquarters will remain an independent company, ASYS said in a press release.

ASYS was founded in 1992 and employs more than 250 people worldwide.
