LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES -- Ionics EMS Inc. has named veteran tech executive and former government leader Jay Sabido president and chief operating officer.

Sabido was Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary, and has 20 years' experience in technology management, business development, R&D, product development, manufacturing engineering and operations experience. He previously was R&D executive of IBM, director of R&D at REMEC Broadband Wireless International and chief technology officer of Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI). He was also vice president of sales and marketing and director of research at Wave Optics,

Sabido has also held various public sector jobs, including director of the Filipino R&D Institute of Electronics and IT and the Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI).

He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Philippines, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford.
