RAMAT HASHARON, ISRAEL – Flextronics is one of five companies bidding for the Israel Military Industries, a government-owned and -run manufacturer of military gear.

The Israeli government is seeking a minimum NIS 1.1 billion ($281 million) for the unit, which is famous for the Uzi submachine gun, among other inventions.

The unit, which has been on the market for 15 years, employs 2,900 workers and had sales of NIS 2 billion in 2015, with a backlog of orders worth NIS 7.3 billion over the next three years.

Flextronics is reported to be one of two leading candidates, along with Elbit Systems. Three other companies are supposedly in the running, according to Israel media.
