TAIPEI -- A large contingent of key Foxconn notebook PC researchers have bolted for the competition, a Taiwan-based media outlet said today.

DigiTimes is reporting between 100 to 200 Foxconn workers are said to have joined Compal. Both companies are denying the story.

The team of researchers was responsible for developing notebooks for Dell, DigiTimes reported.

They reportedly left after Foxconn changed its notebook strategy in response to continuing lower margins in that space.

Dell's primary supplier for enterprise notebook is Compal, with a 90% share. Dell's main consumer notebook supplier is Wistron.

Foxconn has joined Flextronics among major EMS/ODM companies that are rethinking their PC strategies in light of falling margins.
