NEWARK, NH -- IEC Electronics reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $1.75 million, up 68% from last year.

For the quarter ended April 1, the electronics manufacturing services company reported revenue of $35.1 million, up 39% year-over-year on acquisitions and greater demand. Operating income rose to 9.5% of sales versus 7.9% for the same period last year.O rganic sales increased by more than 20% over the comparable period.

Revenue year-to-date is up $20.5 million to $63.7 million.

Chairman and CEO W. Barry Gilbert said, "All of our important financial metrics improved and we are pleased with our progress. The improvement was a combination of various factors; increased efficiency, product mix and the margin generated from our latest acquisition Southern California Braiding. We now expect to be ahead of our forecasted annual revenue of $130 million."

For the first six months of fiscal 2011, military/aerospace decreased as a percentage of sales to 53% from 58% at the end of fiscal 2010, reflecting growth in other sectors. Medical and "other" has increased to 20% of sales from 13%. Industrial and communications were relatively flat at 27%, down 200 basis points.
