'Singaporean RoHS' to Go Into Effect Next June
SINGAPORE – Singapore's Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) published a RoHS-like regulation that restricts use of certain hazardous substances in electronics products.
The Environmental Protection and Management Act Order 2016 goes into effect June 1, 2017. It restricts six substances in electrical and electronic products: cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl.
The regulation covers air conditioners, flat panel display TVs, mobile phones, phablets, portable computers, refrigerators or washing machines designed for household use. Batteries and accumulators designed for industrial use only and second-hand electrical and electronic products are excluded.
