PATHUMTANI, THAILAND -- EMS provider SVI Public Co. today said it would temporarily cease operations at its plants in the Bangkok area although the rampant flooding has not damaged its factories.

The company, one of the 50 largest contract electronics manufacturers, has sites in Bangkadi Industrial Park and in Chaengwattana. The former sites will be temporarily closed for the safety of the firm's employees, who would have to brave the high waters just to reach work. The latter plant remains open, the company said in a statement.

Our plants located at Bangkadi Industrial Park have not been affected by the floods yet. Due to serious flood spreading into many areas, due to safety of our employees, SVI has decided to temporarily stop the operation at the Bangkadi Industrial Park.
