SANTA CLARA, CA -- PCB West, the annual Silicon Valley trade show, opens today with anticipation of an event that tops even last year's turnout.

Advance registration for the conference and exhibition was up more than 15% over last year, with the tech conference up about 20% year-over-year.

The exhibits for PCB West are open Wednesday from 11 to 7 and features scores of software vendors, fabricators and EMS companies, and other service suppliers.

Numerous free technical sessions will take place Wednesday, including talks on HDI reliability, flex circuit construction, board-level simulation, microwave/RF design, FPGA signal propagation, handling printed circuit board defects and returns, high-frequency PCB laminates, and power integrity analysis among them. The PCB Designers Roundtable, an annual favorite moderated by PCD&F's own Pete Waddell, also takes place, as does a special panel looking at CAD-CAM data transfer.

Also on Wednesday, as part of the technical conference, is a special all-day session on electronics assembly, sponsored by the SMTA Silicon Valley Chapter and featuring talks on advanced packages, low silver solders, surface finishes, and lead-free assembly.

PCB West takes place at the Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center.
