SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Raven Industries today announced record second-quarter sales and profits, but its contract electronics manufacturing unit declined.

Electronic Systems' sales in the quarter ended July 31 were $16.5 million, down 9% from a year ago. Operating income was $2.3 million, down 18%.

For the quarter ended July 31, overall company sales increased 23% from a year ago to $90.3 million. Net income rose 49% to $12.5 million.

For the quarter, sales in the Applied Technology division increased 54% to $32.3 million, while operating income rose 120% to $12.1 million. The company's Engineered Films division posted record quarterly sales of $32.5 million, up 24% Operating income decreased 5% to $5.3 million. Its Aerostar unit's sales were up 18% to $10.9 million, and operating income grew 62% $2.2 million.
