TORONTO -- Celestica will add 400 workers to its local workforce to meet higher demand, the company said yesterday.

The electronics manufacturing services company, ranked fourth worldwide in terms of revenue, will add some 400 employees to boost the firm's newfound focus on the aerospace, defense, and clean energy markets.

"If we didn't have this transformation in Toronto, we would be laying off 300 people. We are going to be keeping those jobs and we are adding another 400," chief executive Craig Muhlhauser said.

The EMS company has more than 35,000 workers worldwide.
