JUNDIAI, SAO PAULO, BRAZIL -- Foxconn will reportedly open a manufacturing plant about 60 km north of Sao Paulo where it will build for Apple.

 

Foxconn, the world's largest electronics manufacturing services company, has existing plants in Jundiaí at which it builds for Hewlett-Packard and Sony. The third site is expected to come online in 2013, according to a report by 2013, according to Redebomdia.

Neither Apple nor Foxconn has commented.

Brazil has steep import duties (the Imposto de Importação) that make local manufacturing a necessity for many OEMs.
