WASHINGTON – The US State Department is seeking public comments on whether existing regulations governing defense and other exports should be modified or repealed.

In a March 3 memorandum, the State Department said the review intends to make its program more effective in achieving regulatory objectives.

The department also said it is developing a preliminary plan for periodic review of existing regulations and reporting obligations. The goal is to create a systematic method for identifying significant rules that are obsolete or no longer make sense. The State Department will consider strengthening, complementing, or modernizing rules where necessary or appropriate.
