PLANO, TEXAS – Siemens has acquired Aster Technologies, a specialist in printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) test verification and engineering software, strengthening its position in design-for-test (DfT) and manufacturing readiness for complex electronic systems.

The acquisition integrates Aster’s “shift-left” DFT capabilities directly into Siemens’ Xpedition and Valor software portfolios, both part of the Siemens Xcelerator platform. The move is intended to help electronics manufacturers identify test coverage gaps earlier in the PCB design cycle.

By combining Aster’s DFT and test coverage analysis with Siemens’ existing design-for-manufacturing (DfM) tools in Valor and PCB design workflows in Xpedition, Siemens aims to create a more tightly connected digital thread from PCB design through assembly and test.

Siemens said the acquisition responds to growing electronics complexity driven by advanced automotive systems, 5G integration and increasingly dense PCB assemblies, all of which place greater demands on test strategy development. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
