NEEDHAM, MA – Global PC shipments accelerated in the third quarter, rising 9.4% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to preliminary data from International Data Corporation. The total of 75.8 million units reflects a steady refresh of aging hardware as Windows 11 adoption continues to shape replacement cycles.
The Asia/Pacific market saw double-digit growth, driven primarily by Japan’s refresh initiatives tied to the Windows 10 end-of-support and the GIGA education project. Growth outside Japan remained moderate, weighed down by political and macroeconomic uncertainties. North America lagged behind other regions, with demand tempered by import tariffs and economic headwinds.
Among the top vendors, Lenovo led shipments with 19.4 million units, followed by HP Inc. at 15 million and Dell Technologies at 10.1 million. Apple and ASUS rounded out the top five with year-over-year growth of 13.7% and 11.4% respectively.
“While the market shows strong momentum overall, regional dynamics tell different stories,” said Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice-president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers. “North America remains under pressure, but demand for Windows 11-ready PCs is expected to extend into 2026.”
