BILLINGSTAD, NORWAY -- Kitron ASA will open a fully owned subsidiary in Johnstown, PA, early next year, the company said.

The company will take over a 23,000 sq. ft. plant starting Oct. 1, and plans to be up and running by Jan. 1, 2011. Staff hiring is underway, the firm said. The operation initially will focus on the defense industry, which is one of Kitron's main businesses.

“In the longer term we will approach customers from other market segments as well,“ said Roger Hovland, sales and marketing director.

“This is another example of Kitron following their customers internationally,“ said CEO Jorgen Bredesen.

The Scandanavian contract electronics firm has been expanding of late, having purchased a small plant in Germany earlier this year.
