| ACT to Commence Corinth Layoffs |

CORINTH, MI -- ACT Electronics's electronics manufacturing services plant here will begin laying off workers as early as Dec. 4, according to published reports. About two weeks ago, the company told customers it would close its Hudson, MA, factories. The company gave word to the site's more than 200 employees yesterday, according to The Daily Corinthian. Reports indicate the plant will remain open, however. The Corinth plant, which houses 350,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, is one of the largest EMS facilities in North America, according to Circuits Assembly's 2008 Directory of EMS Companies. It is unclear how many of the site's employees will be let go. However, according to the report, plant manager and vice president of operations Ed Carter said the company is seeking a buyer for the plant. The two Hudson plants are 30,000 sq. ft. each. According to customers of ACT in Hudson, the company intended to relocate certain production to Corinth. In a letter to the town of Hudson, CEO Arthur Dunn said 27 employees would be affected by the Hudson closing. Tags: Electronics, EMS, manufacturing, SMT, contract assembly
