ST. LOUIS – LaBarge Inc. reported second-quarter fiscal 2008 profits were $3.4 million, up 6% compared to last year. Net sales rose 10% year-over-year to $67.1 million.

Net sales for the second half of the year rose 14% to $126.2 million. Net earnings in the fiscal 2008 first half were $5.9 million, up 6% sequentially.

Total debt at Dec. 30 was $24.05 million, up 3% from Sept. 30, and down 8% from July 1.

New business bookings were strong in the second quarter, with the largest contributions coming from the defense, industrial and natural resources market sectors, the company said.

“We expect sales and earnings in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2008 will compare favorably with both this year’s second quarter and the comparable year-ago periods, translating to another record year for LaBarge,” said CEO and president Craig LaBarge.
