OFAKIM, ISRAELFlextronics is expected to dismiss about 600 production workers at its plant here within a month, say published reports.

The move comes because the electronics manufacturer has had problems obtaining credit insurance to cover its business with ECI, producer of telecommunications equipment, the primary source of its production in Ofakim.

ECI’s latest component order with Flextronics is for $85 million, say reports. Flextronics' failure to obtain credit insurance of $50 million is because it’s “high risk.”

Flextronics has requested the help of government ministries and senior officials there in finding a solution to the problem.

The firm also employs 500 people in Arad and about 100 in Sderot.
