HAWTHORNE, CA -- OSI Systems reported second-quarter net income rose 34% from last year to $12.3 million.

For the period ended Dec. 31, the company reported revenues of $188 million, up 11% from a year ago. or $0.47 per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2011.

Revenue from the company's contract assembly unit fell 7% for the period to $47.7 million. Operating revenue for the unit slipped to $4.27 million from $4.45 million.

As of Dec. 31, the ODM/EMS company's backlogs had risen 24% to $377 million from June.

OSI is a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of specialized electronic systems and components for security, medical, defense and related critical applications.
