LOS ANGELES – Sony has established a national consumer electronics recycling program to encourage proper disposal of electronics devices.

The Sony Take Back Recycling Program allows consumers to recycle all Sony-branded products for no fee at 75 Waste Management Recycle America eCycling drop-off centers throughout the U.S. The program also allows consumers to recycle other manufacturers' products at market prices, and may include a recycling fee for some types of materials.

The program will start on Sept. 15 and was developed in collaboration with WM Recycle America. This is reportedly the first U.S. recycling initiative that involves both a major electronics manufacturer and a national waste management company.

The eCycling drop-off centers will increase to about 150 sites within a year, with at least one location in every state, Sony says.

The goal is to have drop-off locations within 20 miles of 95% of the U.S. population, the two companies said. Shipping options will also be available.
