SAN JOSE – North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.67 billion in orders worldwide in August (three-month average basis), up 23.8% year-over-year and 5% sequentially, says SEMI.

The three-month average of worldwide billings was $1.58 billion, up 21.9% compared to August 2014 and an increase of 1.3% sequentially.

The book-to-bill ratio was 1.06, which means $106 worth of orders was received for every $100 of product billed for the month. a ratio over 1.0 is generally seen as an indicator of future growth.

It was the ratio's second straight month over 1.0 and its highest mark since March. However, the trade group said the near-term economic outlook and lower demand for electronics in some sectors will likely lower the gains going forward.
