WASHINGTON -- The US Department of Veterans Affairs is proposing to amend and update its acquisition regulations to ensure contractors have implemented a counterfeit electronic part detection and avoidance system.

The VA said its goal is to ensure counterfeit electronic parts do not enter the supply chain.

It is proposing an addition to its contract language to require that contractors determine whether a particular subcontract item meets the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) definition of a commercial item. FAR already has language regarding use of processes to weed out counterfeit components.

VA’s impact analysis can be found as a supporting document at regulations.gov.
