TEMPE, AZ -- Amtech Systems today reported fiscal third quarter revenues of $47.8 million, up 44% from a year ago. Sales of soldering equipment for SMT and semiconductors were $18.8 million in the quarter, and solar equipment sales were $29 million.

Net income for the June period was $3.3 million, compared to a net loss of $1.4 million in the preceding quarter and a net loss of $1.2 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2016. The company ended the quarter with backlogs of $125.7 million, $98.2 million in solar.

Amtech is the parent company of BTU.

Fokko Pentinga, chief executive of Amtech, commented: "During the quarter our semiconductor segment revenue and earnings improved as the semiconductor and electronics industries are in a cycle of increased capital spending. While all segments performed well in the quarter, we are seeing the greatest improvement in the solar growth segment."

The company expects revenues for the quarter ending Sept. 30 to be in the range of $45 million to $48 million.
