MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Christine Taylor, a graduate student at Georgia Institute of Technology, has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 Charles Hutchins Educational Grant.

The SMTA selected her project "Nano- and Micro-scale Strain Sensors for Measuring Stress Evolution in Microelectronic Packages."

In August 2015, Christine will receive her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. She currently holds a master’s from Georgia Tech and a bachelor’s from Auburn University, both in mechanical engineering.

The Charles Hutchins Educational Grant, cosponsored by the SMTA and CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY magazine, was established in memory of past SMTA president Dr. Charles Hutchins. The $5000 grant has been presented annually since 1998 to a full-time graduate-level student pursuing a degree and working on thesis research in electronics assembly, electronics packaging, or a related field.

The 2015 grant will be presented at SMTAI in Rosemont, IL, Sept. 27 – Oct. 1, 2015.
