SMT Smart Network excites show visitors

The smart factory has already become reality, as ASM demonstrated in cooperation with members of the SMT Smart Network at this year’s Productronica trade show held November 14-17 in Munich, Germany. Representatives of participating electronics manufacturers (“smart factory champions”) were busy explaining their respective paths to smart production methods while innovation leader ASM presented chains of integrated hardware and software solutions for the eight core processes in electronics production with the help of workflow stations and two SMT production lines. Innovative highlights included the ASM Production Planner, Offline Printer Programming, Onboard PCB Inspection, Touchless Placement, and the ASM Command Center. Other centers of attention were The Hermes Standard and the ADAMOS joint venture, both of which underscored ASM’s trailblazing role in open data integration and the Industrial Internet of Things. More than a thousand show visitors participated in the Quick Factory Check, which allowed them to compare their own production processes against those of outstanding reference manufacturers to identify workflows with the greatest impact on costs, time and quality. Gabriela Reckewerth, Senior Director Global Marketing at ASM, gave a very positive summary: “Our presentation at this year's Productronica was proof that electronics manufacturers can realize their vision of a smart factory with ASM. I was particularly thrilled by the constructive support of our SMT Smart Network partners, who provided so many of our visitors with valuable information and tips. That was exactly what we had envisioned for this network, namely that electronics manufacturers would be able to learn from each other, exchange knowledge, and move the implementation of smart factories forward. We also won new network members during the show, and I look forward to building on these relationships and advancing the smart SMT factory concept further.”

At this year’s Productronica (November 14-17 in Munich), ASM confirmed once again its role as the industry's innovation and technology leader with a booth that focused entirely on smart factory projects. On the basis of eight core processes in electronics production, ASM presented new hardware and software from its broad portfolio that helps electronics manufacturers become more productive.

SMT Smart Network: Electronics manufacturers from all over the world deliver the proof

Members of the SMT Smart Network (‘smart factory champions’) confirmed the feasibility of ASM’s smart factory strategy. Established by ASM, the network is made up of visionary electronics manufacturers who have successfully implemented smart factory concepts in cooperation with ASM and its partners. Representative of the companies eagerly answered visitors’ questions and demonstrated their solutions with the help of videos. At the joint networking event, the members expressed their conviction of the benefits of the SMT Smart Network and its opportunities to exchange information and benchmarking results. They also agreed to build a shared web platform and conduct process workshops next year, among other things.

ASM pushes next-generation technologies

Also exciting for the SMT Smart Network and many Productronica visitors: with The Hermes Standard initiative to create a modern standard to non-proprietary machine-to-machine communication between SMT line components and the company's participation in the ADAMOS joint venture, ASM is committed to two highly innovative and future-oriented data integration projects for the smart SMT factory. Founders of ADAMOS include industry leaders like DMG Mori, Dürr, Mori Seiki, Zeiss, Schenk, and well-known software companies like Itac. ASM will build the ASEMO (Adaptive Smart Electronics Manufacturing Operations System) marketplace on the basis of ADAMOS to establish the first global cloud infrastructure for data services and apps designed especially for the needs of the electronics manufacturing industry.

Smart workflows as efficiency drivers

ASM presented major findings for implementing concepts and best practices from SMT Smart Network projects in the form of integrated solution chains for eight workflows that have a critical impact on the efficiency, quality and flexibility of electronics plants. For four line workflows (Planning, Virtual Production, Process Optimization,  Production) and four factory workflows (Material Management, Preparation, Factory Monitoring, Factory Integration), Productronica visitors could run the Quick Factory Check before getting more information at various expert stations or talking with ‘smart factory champions’ from the SMT Smart Network about solutions that have already been implemented. For a deeper analysis of your production processes, ASM offers its specially developed Smart Factory Check that will support electronics manufacturers after the Productronica if they decide to embark on the road to the smart factory.
